Sacred Valley Lodge to Lodge Itinerary
Day 1: Sacred Valley of the Incas | Treasures of the Sacred Valley
Travel from the charismatic streets of Cusco to the breathtaking Sacred Valley of the Incas, where lush green fields nestle at the base of snow-capped mountain peaks. Spend time exploring the archaeological site of Chinchero, where colonial buildings were constructed atop ancient Inca formations, then hike along old Inca trails to the town of Urquillos. We’ll also visit the salt mines of Maras and the circular terraces of Moray, thought to have been created by the Inca to study exotic plant species.

Day 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas | Exploring Pisaq
This morning, visit the lively market of Pisaq, a hive of colorful activity as indigenous communities gather to sell traditional handicrafts. Alternatively, opt for a morning hike to soak up the Andean views or a cycling excursion along the Urubamba River (additional cost) before traveling to the remote community of Viacha. Here, you’ll learn about artisanal potato farming and enjoy a traditional Pachamanca meal cooked under hot stones. In the afternoon, explore the archaeological ruins of Pisaq as the sun sets behind the mountains of the Sacred Valley.

Day 3: Lares Valley | Inca Sites and Villages
Begin the day with a scenic drive through the Sacred Valley along the Inca Weaver’s Trail, stopping to explore the little-visited archaeological site of Ancasmarca en route to Lares. In the afternoon, opt to visit the ancient weavers’ village of Choquecancha or hike between towering mountain peaks and turquoise lakes to the remote village of Huacahuasi. Tonight, stay at a community-run lodge dedicated to preserving the natural environment and cultural heritage of the region.

Day 4: Lares Valley | Exploring Huacahuasi
Spend the morning strolling through the village of Huacahuasi and meeting local residents, with the opportunity to discover the artful textiles created by expert weavers. Take a Peruvian cooking class and enjoy your home-cooked meal with the group. Alternatively, embark on an all-day hike from the community of Quiswarani along the Trail of 1,000 Lakes, passing herds of alpacas and llamas grazing on the hillside as you take in the majestic scenery.

Day 5: Sacred Valley of the Incas | Expedition to Ollantaytambo
Begin the day discovering more about daily life in Huacahuasi before embarking on a spectacular hike over a high pass to the ancient town of Ollantaytambo. You may also opt to hike from Lares Pass along an old Inca trail winding through a scenic canyon to the community of Totora or visit an ethnographic museum exploring pre-Inca and Inca civilizations. After lunch at a local restaurant in the Urubamba River valley, arrive in the charming town of Ollantaytambo. Alternatively, opt for a mountain biking excursion (additional cost) through the Sacred Valley, including a stop at an artisanal brewery.

Day 6: Sacred Valley of the Incas | Discovering Ollantaytambo
Wake early for an optional hike to the ancient Inca storage structures that perch high above Ollantaytambo, offering magnificent views of this former royal estate of Inca Emperor Pachacutec. Then, take a guided tour of the main archaeological site of Ollantaytambo to discover its strategic importance and mystical history. In the afternoon, board a scenic train ride along the Urubamba River to the town of Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.

Day 7: Machu Picchu | The Sanctuary
Begin your journey to Machu Picchu with a thrilling uphill bus ride to the Sanctuary, arriving as the day’s first rays illuminate the site over the iconic Sun Gate. Discover the skilled craftsmanship of the Temple of the Sun and royal Inca residences, with plenty of time to pause and take in the breathtaking beauty and mystery of Machu Picchu. You can opt to hike to the towering peak of Huayna Picchu, which offers spectacular views from the Urubamba River to the edges of the Amazon. Later, return to Aguas Calientes for your train ride to Ollantaytambo, followed by a bus transfer back to Cusco.

Getting to Cusco, Peru:
Book your international flight to Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ) in Cusco, Peru. This is the closest airport to your trip’s starting point and the main gateway for travelers heading to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
Recommended Arrival Timing:
We recommend arriving at least one to two days before the official start of your tour to allow time for any unexpected delays and to acclimate to the altitude before your adventure begins. We suggest staying at one of our partner hotels in the heart of Cusco, such as Andenes or XO Art House.
Flights & Connections:
Cusco Airport receives domestic flights from Lima (LIM) and other major Peruvian cities. International travelers will typically fly into Lima first before connecting to Cusco. Be sure to check visa or transit requirements if you have layovers in other countries.
Meeting Location & Time:
Your trip officially begins after breakfast on Day 1 at our designated meeting location in Cusco. The exact meeting point and any additional details will be provided in your travel documents.
Airport Transfer Upon Arrival:
Transfers from Cusco Airport (CUZ) to your hotel can be arranged upon request. If you have booked a transfer, a representative will meet you upon arrival, holding a sign with your name or our company logo. They will assist with your luggage and transport you to your hotel.
Emergency Contact:
If you have trouble locating your transfer or need assistance, please call the emergency contact number provided in your travel documents.
Return Travel:
Your trip concludes in the afternoon on the last day of the itinerary. After returning to Cusco, you may choose to book a flight home that evening or extend your stay to further explore the region.

Peru Weather
Lima experiences a mild desert climate with minimal rainfall throughout the year, characterized by two primary seasons:
Summer (December to April): During these months, Lima is typically warm and humid, with temperatures ranging from 70°F to 85°F (21°C to 29°C). Days are often sunny, making it an ideal time for beach visits and outdoor activities.
Winter (May to November): This period brings cooler and overcast conditions, with temperatures between 60°F and 70°F (16°C to 21°C). Mornings and evenings can feel damp due to the coastal fog known locally as "La Garúa." While significant rainfall is rare, light drizzle is common.
Due to Lima's coastal location and the influence of the cold Humboldt Current, temperatures remain moderate throughout the year. However, humidity levels can be high, often exceeding 80%, which can make temperatures feel cooler in winter and warmer in summer. It's advisable to wear layered clothing to stay comfortable amid changing conditions.
The garúa fog significantly impacts Lima's climate, leading to overcast skies and reduced sunshine, particularly during the winter months. This phenomenon contributes to Lima receiving only about 1,284 hours of sunshine annually, which is relatively low compared to other cities at similar latitudes.
Additionally, Lima’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean results in high humidity levels, which can enhance the perception of temperature variations throughout the year. Overall, Lima's unique climate is influenced by its coastal desert location and the moderating effects of the Humboldt Current, resulting in mild temperatures and distinct seasonal variations.
